1.
the call came in some wednesday night that you soon would be staring down the end of your life i just can't have you be the one who will not get to know my son we sat and looked upon the sea you put your watch and chain in my hand and said i can't believe i'm not the one who will not get to know your son it came so fast, that day you died the air was so quiet and the sun was so hot and dry i guess you just won't be the one who's gonna get to know my son
2.
it's quiet out here there's barely a sound by a river of blood and i'm surprised i can't hear any complaint or protest at all just an electric blue flickering strobe shining through the windows from that god on the wall sell me an image sell me someone i can be keep me from thinking beyond the guidance i get from machines oh what would I do? what would i say? but "man, i sure made a difference on that election day" sea's rising, oils bleeding gluttonous beasts wipe their cheeks as the news prints the score but cash is flowing and fields are dying and as the rain stops, she can feed her children no more but i want something more so i'll sell you an image yes i'll sell ya someone you can be and that should keep you from thinking beyond the guidance you get from machines oh what would you do? what would you say? if you had dominion over that mouth on your face?

I Was One 04:25
howling wind i hear you blowing there its like you just don't care your messing up my hair it's like you just don't care at all city lights burn without asking why you're my electric hive i was one then i multiplied oh father, while i raise up your grandchild are you out there watching? when we were so small i took for granted that you'd always be there just for us just for us and now momma's dressed in black cause her man ain't coming back and the clouds form a halo around the sun and when my child asks if my father's coming back i will tell him no and that all things must pass i will tell him no and that all things must pass howling wind i hear you blowing there it's like you just don't care you're messing up my hair it's like you just don't care at all.

Morning Song 02:31
come on son it's time to wake the whole wide world's alive so open up your eyes come on son it's time to run climb up in a tree or just kick that old ball to me i did live just to please myself, just for me i was the king of a self indulgent dream but 600 days of sub standard sleep piercing blue eyes and a heart melting smile have shaken me come on son it's a brand new day and i just can't wait to show you all you want to see come on son don't you know that i just can't wait to give you your very first guitar?
5.
Wonderpark 04:19
I'd like to play in your wonderpark i'd like to play there all day climb a staircase up to the sky swing on the sun's bursting rays far far away, from all my known faces like a stone pulled out of the fire I step from my hell, and hear the song in your eyes say "let the river run" all of the colors are raining down mischief and fun in the air our little child just running 'round getting dirt everywhere see how your hair shines in the moonlight see your soul burst out of your eyes blowing a wind through my heart as you ask me "don't you hear the sound?" this takes me back to our wedding day the mist and the sweet summer rain moving slow down the winding stair gently walking to me you lovely soul i'll love you forever lazy days waking up with our child through the calm and the chaos around us here we are.

Lullaby 02:31
child of mine it's sleepy time when you wake everything will be fine the day is gone the nights arrived the sun has gone to the other side i see you yawning there child of mine it's sleepy time and that's fine as wine in dreams you can go anywhere but if you get lost don't despair i'll leave the light on so you can fly all the way home the stars are like diamond lights the moon is shining high up in the sky so close your eyes and say goodnight i'll tuck you in and then kiss your eyes one tastes like peaches and one like plums it's time to sleep til the morning comes in dreams you can go anywhere but if you get lost don't despair i'll leave the light on so you can fly all the way home i'll leave the light on so you can fly all the way home all the way home

about

These songs were inspired by a time in my life when I put both my son and my father to bed on the same evening. It's about saying hello and also goodbye and being myself, somewhere in between.
